So far 2019 hasn’t been a great year for walking, running and biking — first the endless spring rains and then the baking summer heat.
Now with pleasant fall weather arriving, the beautiful recreation trails in Dallas County become more inviting.
Use these recreational-trail opportunities to get out of house, where you’ve been cooped up in stale air conditioning for weeks. You can amble along at a leisurely pace or hike hilly terrain. Some trails are accessible for individuals with limited mobility.
If you aren’t familiar with all Dallas County has to offer in the way of trails, go to the county website and click on Services, where you can find information on Conservation and Recreation. The News and Events tab lists area activities for the whole family.

Or you could visit the Forest Park Museum at 14581 K Ave., where the Dallas County Conservation Board offices are located. The museum itself houses collections of interesting natural and historical artifacts and is surrounded by an arboretum with trails throughout.
This fall try walking and biking these trails: High Trestle, Kuehn Conservation Area, Raccoon River Valley or Voas Nature Area. One last word – please wear helmets as you bike the trails.
