New fire hydrants have sprung up along Diagonal Road in Perry as work nears completion on the $475,000 water main replacement project undertaken by the Perry Water Works.
Recent heavy rains slowed progress on the construction, which involved burying pipe southeastward along Diagonal Road from the Asgrow building at 235 Willis Ave.
The new, larger main connects to the recently replaced water main along Willis Avenue, which runs from W. 10th Street eastward and connects to the existing distribution system near the new Frog Creek Bridge.
The Perry Water Works Trustees approved the job in May. At the Sept. 13 meeting of the Water Works Board, the trustees authorized Superintendent Hank Schmidt to “check into the engineering for a future water main upgrade project on east Willis Avenue and on 16th Street.”
The next meeting of the Perry Water Works Board of Trustees is Thursday, Oct. 11 at 8 a.m. at the offices at 1101 W. Third St.
