After a one-year, virus-imposed postponement, the Perry High School Music and Drama departments is two weeks away from finally staging its spring musical production, “Mamma Mia!”

The musical will be performed three times: Friday, April 9 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m. and again Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center, where social distancing still limits admission to about 150 per performance in the 638-seat center.

Tickets are $5 and $8 and may be purchased at the PHS office. The cast is composed of about 35 Perry High School student actors, with another 20 students serving as crew members. The PHS Vocal Music Department is directed by Jenn Nelson, and the PHS Drama Department is led by Randy Peterson.

“Mamma Mia!” is a 1999 musical written by Catherine Johnson that is based songs by the Swedish pop group ABBA from the 1970s. The plot follows a young bride-to-be who invites three men to her upcoming wedding, each of whom might be her father.

“This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise,” according to a promotional blurb for the 2008 movie version. “On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!”
