Wolves strike early to eliminate Panthers

MANNING — IKM-Manning scored five times in the first inning and then twice in the second to send an early message in Saturday’s Class 2A District 15 contest with visiting Panorama.

The Panthers either did not receive, or chose to ignore, the directive, scoring once in the fourth frame, three times in the fifth and one in the sixth to close to within 7-6. The Wolves tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, then kept Panorama (4-18) from scoring in the seventh to secure the win.

Alex Heiman was 3-for-4 for IKM-Manning (12-14), with Jared Johnson hitting a single, a double and a triple while scoring three times and driving in one run.

Cody Chapman tossed 4-1/3 innings, scattering seven hits and two walks. He allowed four runs (three earned) while striking out one in claiming the win.

Sam Gross threw 1-2/3 frames of scoreless relief, walking two and fanning three, with Alex Lingle touched for two runs on four hits and two walks in an inning on the mound.

Luke South spent four innings on the bump and suffered the loss for the Panthers. He allowed seven runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out three. Jacob Iseminger allowed one run on two hits and two walks. He struck out one.

South was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and a RBI while Tanner Godfrey was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Justin Rolfes had two singles, with Koltin Sloss and Levi Richey each adding base hits. Noah Kirtley drew three walks and Jeramy Randol two, with Dylan Douglass also reaching on a base on balls.

Sloss swiped two bags and Iseminger had a RBI, with South, Godfrey, Richey, Rolfes, Douglass and Kirtley each scoring once for the Panthers.
