TREYNOR — The Woodward Academy thinclads will be well-represented at the Class 2A State Track Meet next week, as the Knights have qualified in five events — including having two sprinters securing spots in the 100 dash.
Terence Lewis and Rashawn Porter both earned spots at Drake Stadium as the result of their efforts Thursday at their state qualifying meet. Lewis won the race in 11.34 seconds, with Porter earning an at-large selection after finishing fourth in 11.68 ticks.
Lewis qualified in the 200 by winning in 22.53, with Porter just missing an at-large spot despite finishing third in 23.78.
Both were joined by Antoine Scoggins and Jerome Matthew in winning the 4×100 in 44.11 — the third-fastest time in 2A — with the foursome also to race at state in the 4×200 after placing second in 1 minutes, 32.9 seconds.
The final WA spot at state will be in a field event, as Ankoma Riddick secured an at-large designation in the discus with a spin of 138 feet, 7 inches, an effort that placed fourth Thursday.
The Academy scored numerous points during the meet, including a fourth-place time of 53.04 from Asani Abdullah in the 400, with Isaiah Gist fourth in the 3200 in 10:59.29.
Delonquay Richardson was seventh in the 400 hurdles in 1:00.05, with Zach Coffman seventh in the 800 in 2:17.6, with the 4×400 team of Richardson, Abdullah, Tyler Gaston and Charles Thompson sixth in 3:41.76.
Abdullah, Gaston, Dwight Gibbs and Nieko Morris placed sixth in the 1600 medley (3:53.88), Gibbs, Thompson, Richardson and Justin Frazer sixth in the shuttle hurdle (1:07.53) and Gaston, Morris, Coffman and Ricardo Guerrero sixth in the 4×800 (9:05.03).
Matthew also scored for the Knights in the long jump after his flight of 19’6-3/4 finished fifth.
