Woodward-Granger was 29-9 overall this season and will return all six starters and numerous reserves who saw plenty of playing time next year.

OGDEN — The volleyball team from Woodward-Granger continued their march through the West Central Conference continued Thursday with a 3-0 sweep of Ogden.

The Hawks were 25-14 winners in the first game, with the Bulldogs putting up a challenge before falling, 25-22, in the second game. W-G then closed out the match with a 25-16 game three victory.

“I am still waiting for us to find that ‘turning point’ that moment when we really unify and play the way we have a few times this year,” W-G head coach Meg Jackson said. “Maybe it is just because we are still young (the team has but one senior), but we just need to start enjoying playing together more.

“There are no off-court issues and the girls all get along great, but I think they know that there is a level that they can play up to and it bothers some of them when we play well, just not at that level they believe they can reach,” she continued. “There are always things we can do better and maybe that bothers some of them, but I told them just the other day that they are a very good team and should enjoy this a little more.”

W-G improved to 13-5 on the season and is 3-0 in WCC play. The Hawks have suffered only one loss to a school their size and have defeated numerous schools higher than their own Class 2A.

“Sometimes we are trying so hard to play that perfect match that we get a little nervous with ourselves,” Jackson said. “The key is just to relax and not worry … just go out and play volleyball. When we do that, things will take care of themselves.”

Mary Hansen had 19 assists and seven kills in the win over Ogden, with Alyssa Bice adding 17 assists while Olivia McCune provided three blocks and had 18 kills while committing only two hitting errors.

Bree Lesch tallied 19 digs and 10 kills and was 23-of-24 serving with five aces while libero player Kara Bodensteiner finished 12-13-3 behind the line and had 22 digs.

W-G returns to action Saturday when they play in the Ballard Invitational.
