A Woodward man who briefly went missing in mid-June and was later arrested on a charge of third-degree theft is back in police custody Wednesday after allegedly assaulting Adel police officers.

Nicholas Keith Clayton, 29, of Woodward was arrested by officers of the Adel Police Department on charges of interference with official acts, assault on peace officers and others, assault with intent to inflict serious injury and trespassing.

Adel Police Department Chief Gordy Shepherd did not respond to requests for comment on the circumstances of Clayton’s arrest Wednesday in Adel.

Clayton is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail without bond. The third-degree theft charge stemmed from a March incident in which he allegedly rented a trailer that was never returned.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
