Saturday’s open house and silent auction at the Woodward Public Library gave patrons and guests their first look at recent upgrades and improvements at the facility, ranging from computer hardware and software updates to major remodeling in the office and meeting room.

A extensive system of built-in storage cabinets was the most visible evidence of the library’s makeover. The work was funded in large part by a $10,531 grant received in April from the Dallas County Foundation (DCF).

“The new storage capacity will greatly improve our efficiency,” said Woodward Public Library Director Myrna Griffin. “We’re very thankful to the Dallas County Foundation for supporting our efforts to serve the Woodward community.”

The DCF funds grant requests for projects that significantly impact the lives of Dallas County residents in the areas of health and human services, arts and culture, youth development, education, recreation or the environment and community betterment.

A series of photos outside the library’s office and circulation desk showed open-house visitors the phases of the remodeling project. A plaque indicated that along with the Dallas County Foundation, the project was supported by funding from the Bock Family Foundation, the Myrna Mayfield Trust Fund, community matching funds and the Woodward Public Library Foundation.

The 2019 DCF granting cycle began in late November. Grant application materials are now available online to prospective applicants, including overview instructions, a grant application form and an evaluation.

The application deadline is Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 at 5 p.m.

Grant awards range from $500 to $20,000. The DCF anticipates awarding more than $100,000 to grant applicants in 2019.

Applicants must be a 501(c)3, 5 or 6 organization or 107(b) unit of government or must affiliated with an organization that has one of these designations.

A workshop offering assistance to DCF grant applicants, explaining application requirements and instructions, is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2018, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Adel Public Library at 303 S. 10th Street in Adel.

The workshop, including lunch, is free. Any qualified organization is welcome to attend. Attendance helps ensure proper grant submissions. Seating is limited. Kindly RSVP by Dec. 21 to dchill@minburncomm.net.

For those unable to attend the face-to-face workshop, a training video will be posted on the DCF website that covers the same information. For more information and grant application materials please visit the DCF website.
