Robin Dobson, 72, of Des Moines passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Robin was a longtime resident of Perry and was active in the community as a member of the Jaycees and the Knights of Columbus. He coached Little League baseball and was a leader in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Perry.

He also played Santa Claus every year at a local department store until it closed.

Robin was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and served honorably in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam era as well as the Iowa Army National Guard, from which he retired.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl Dobson; mother, Joan (Friel) Dobson; his wife, Anita (Winchell) Dobson; and granddaughter, Meghan Dobson.

He is survived by a sister, Jeanne Mazy; brothers, David (Eva) Dobson and Martin Dobson; and sister, Patty (Tom) Sellers. Also surviving are his son, James Dobson of Grimes, and daughters, Jennifer (Jacob) Strohm of Ames and Janelle Dobson of Amarillo, Texas: and seven grandchildren, Caitlin Dobson, Rebecca Dobson, Zachary Strohm, Quentin Strohm, Court Hayhurst, Mathew Thompson and Dakota Thompson.

A short committal service is planned for Monday, June 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
