A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Des Moines takes effect at 7 p.m. Saturday and expires at 3 a.m. Sunday

Strong northwest winds will develop overnight and increase to 25 to 30 mph, with gusts to near 45 mph at times. This may cause travel difficulties, especially for high-profile vehicles and in areas where roads are slick and snow covered.

In addition, a band of snow, falling heavily for a short period, is moving eastward across portions of central and northern Iowa Saturday afternoon. As this band passes, snow will quickly accumulate to one or two inches in some areas, especially north of Highway 30.

The snow will lead to slick roads and difficult travel. Travelers should be alert for the possibility of rapidly deteriorating conditions as the band of snow moves through and the winds pick up. Use extra caution.

Along with Dallas County, the wind advisory is in effect for Sac, Calhoun, Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Audubon, Guthrie, Cass, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion, Adams, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Wapello, Taylor, Ringgold, Decatur, Wayne, Appanoose and Davis counties in Iowa.

Along with Perry, cities included in the wind advisory are Sac City, Lake View, Odebolt, Wall Lake, Schaller, Early, Rockwell City, Manson, Lake City, Pomeroy, Denison, Carroll, Jefferson, Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Atlantic, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville, Corning, Creston, Osceola, Chariton, Albia, Ottumwa, Bedford, Lenox, New Market, Mount Ayr, Lamoni, Leon, Corydon, Seymour, Allerton, Humeston, Centerville and Bloomfield.
