The Perry Public Works Department and Holbrook Construction Inc. of Yale dug up Otley Avenue at Eighth Street Wednesday morning and replaced the 100-year-old brick manhole with a new concrete structure.

A worker with Holbrook said they hope to finish the project by the end of the workday Wednesday.

Perry Public Works Director Jack Butler said several other projects are planned for this week around Perry, including intake work on Willis Avenue at Fifth Street and on Park Street at Eighth Street.

Butler said frost heaving on 16th Street between Lucinda and Taft streets will be repaired by rubblizing the current pavement for use as a subbase, installing subbase drainage tile and resurfacing the roadway. Work will begin Thursday, he said.
