U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) visited Perry Jan. 11, 2016, when he spoke for about 40 minutes at the McCreary Community Building in Perry. He returns to the MCB this Saturday at 3 p.m.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, brings his presidential campaign to Perry Saturday with a town hall meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. at the McCreary Community Building at 1800 Pattee St.

Sanders last visited Perry in January 2016 in the run up to the Iowa Caucuses. He said in 2016 that the U.S. has “a corrupt campaign finance system that allows billionaires to buy elections. We have a middle class that is disappearing. We have massive levels of income and wealth inequality. We have more and more people in Iowa and Vermont and around the country who are working longer and longer hours for lower and lower wages, and almost all of the new income being generated is going to the top 1 percent.”

Sanders will also hold a rally at the Mitchell County Fairgrounds in Osage Sunday at 11 a.m. He is expected to release a major policy statement on rural issues.

Saturday’s event in Perry is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required, but RSVPs are recommended. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Entrance and seating at the event will be first-come, first-served. To RSVP online, visit the Bernie Sanders website.
