Helen Louise Blaisdell, 94, of Perry peacefully went home to be with her Lord April 30, 2019, at the Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry, Iowa.
Helen was born to Joseph and Grga Kauzlarich in Tipperary, Iowa, June 6, 1924.
Her father was a coal miner, and the family moved often because of his work. After her father passed away, Helen moved to Perry with her mother and a sister.
She eventually got a job as a nurse’s aide at the old King’s Daughters Hospital before meeting the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) Blaisdell.
The two were united in marriage Aug. 26, 1949, and made their home in Perry for many years before moving out west to be closer to family. To that union were born two children: Gene Allen and Kathy Louise.
Helen returned to Perry in 2016 and lived out her remaining years as a resident of the Perry Lutheran Home.
Helen loved flower gardening in her younger years, doing kind things for others and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Gene, of Denver; daughter, Kathy (Neil) Hansen of Urbandale; grandchildren, Justin Blaisdell, Eric (Betsy) Hansen, Michael (Jennifer) Hansen and Michelle Hansen; great-grandchildren, Henry, Lucy, Oliver, Danica, Natalie and Maggie Hansen; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Eugene; and her three sisters, Genevieve, Lucy and Mary.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 21 at Murdock Funeral Home. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be given to the Perry Lutheran Homes in Helen’s honor. Condolences to the family may be sent to Murdock Funeral Home.
