WOODWARD — Both Woodward-Granger and Panorama claimed WCAC softball wins by one run over the other Tuesday, with each team winning as the home team on the scoreboard in a twin bill played at the Phil Creese Complex.

W-G (4-16, 1-10) rallied for all five of their runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun Panorama (4-10, 2-7) with a 5-4 win in the opener, but the Panthers held off a late surge in the nightcap to post a 10-9 win in a game ended by rain in the middle of the fifth inning.

Panorama scored single runs in the top of the first, third, sixth and seventh innings of game one to grab what appeared to be a safe 4-0 lead.

W-G had other ideas, as an error, consecutive doubles and a follow-on single plated three runs. A sacrifice bunt and a walk and error helped tie the score, with Maddi Danti’s single driving in the winning run.

Ava Petersen struck out three, walked one and allowed 13 hits in the win. She yielded four runs (two earned) in seven frames.

Emma Anderson had two singles, Natalie Weaver and Chloe Houge both had a single and a double and Allie Moore smacked a double for W-G. Brylee Bice had two hits and Danti one.

Grace Richey was the tough-luck loser, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 11 hits and four walks. She finished with seven strikeouts.

Both offenses were loose for the second game, with W-G scoring twice in their first at-bat and five times in their second while Panorama scored three runs and then two in the first two frames.

The Panthers moved into a 10-7 lead by scoring five times in the fourth, only to have W-G plate two runs in the top of the fifth. The Hawks loaded the bases with two outs, but a ground ball ended the inning, and, eventually, the contest, as rain forced the umpires to end the game.

Lydia Knapp struck out eight while allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in gaining the pitching win.

She helped her own casue with two doubles, a single, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Hannah Woodworth had two singles and scored three times, with Kennedy Andersen adding two singles, a double and two RBIs. Andersen joined Vallerie Storesund in each scoring twice, with the latter adding two base hits.

Rian Jamison lost after four frames in the ring for W-G. She allowed 12 hits, with only four of the 10 Panther runs earned.

Both teams are on the road for WCAC doubleheaders tonight, with W-G at Van Meter while Panorama visits Des Moines Christian.
