The Woodward-Granger starting lineup is introduced before a game earlier this season. W-G hosts DMC Saturday at 7 p.m. for the District 12 title.

STUART — Woodward-Granger made sure to bring their bats with them Monday, pounding out a combined 27 hits in scoring 31 runs in a WCAC sweep of host West Central Valley.

The Hawks apparently made sure they had their speedy cleats with them as well, as the team finished the twin bill with 24 successful stolen bases en route to raising with overall record to 14-3 and their conference mark to 12-3. WCV fell to 3-15, 3-12 with the losses.

WCV scored in the top of the first inning of the opener for their only lead of the evening. The second Wildcat run crossed the plate in the fifth, but by then the Hawks had scored five times. Five additional runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth ended the game early.

Alex Bice collected the win on the mound. The junior allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk and recorded 12 outs on strikes.

Trevor Simmons had two doubles and three runs for W-G, with Jay Dorenkamp hitting two singles and scoring three times. Reese Jamison had three hits and three RBIs, with WOrth Henry driving in two runs with a single and a double.

Bryce Achenbach and Jamison had three steals apiece, with Dorenkamp swiping two bags to lead the Hawk thieves.

W-G put the nightcap away early, scoring four times in the first, three times in the second and then five times in third inning for a 12-0 lead. WCV put a run on the board in their third-inning at-bat, but seven W-G tallies in the fourth set up the early mercy rule.

Henry went four frames on the bump for the win. He allowed a run on a hit and two walks while whiffing five batters.

Jack Grell had a single, a double and two RBIs while Joe Rhodes hitting a double and finishing with four RBIs and three runs scored. Jamison had a single and a double and Henry a base hit and three RBIs.

Achenbach and Jamison had three steals apiece, with Pacey Moats absconding with two bases.

W-G host Class 1A No. 3 Martensdale-St. Marys (15-3) tonight before entertaining Woodward Academy for a WCAC varsity doubleheader Thursday.
