Perry baseball to open postseason at Ballard

The pairings for the Class 3A and 4A baseball teams were released today, with Perry learning they must visit sixth-ranked Ballard in a 3A District 3 semifinal July 19.

NightHawk Field in Slater will welcome Humboldt (14-8) and Webster City (15-7) in the 5 p.m. game July 19, with Perry (0-18) and Ballard (19-3) to follow. Ballard swept Perry, 6-2 and 13-1, in conference play this season.

The two semifinal winners will return to Slater for the D3 Final July 22 at 7 p.m.

District 4 is being hosted by Gilbert, who faces Greene County after Boone battles Algona. Those winners meet, in Gilbert, July 22 at 7 p.m.

The Substate 2 Final will be hosted by the highest remaining seed July 24 at 7 p.m.

The Bluejays have six chances remaining in the regular season to collect their first win, beginning with a trip to Winterset Wednesday. Perry hosts Grinnell July 8 and Ogden July 10, with a trip to Kuemper Catholic scheduled for July 11. The Jays host Nevada July 12 and then wrap the regular season July 15 at Pella.
