MADRID — Woodward-Granger rolled up 455 yards of total offense and dominated every facet of the game in recording a 50-0 win over arch rival Madrid Friday.

The Hawks ran the ball 36 times, amassing 390 yards and finding the end zone six times while adding 65 passing yards and one score through the air.

Junior Trevor Simmons was asked to put the ball in the air only five times, but the quarterback connected on three passes for 65 yards and a score in his first start at the spot. Simmons also ran three times for 17 yards and a touchdown.

Tate Lettow began the scoring with a five-yard plunge late in the first quarter, with Simmons flipping to Bryce Achenbach for the two-point conversion.

Achenbach entered the end zone with a 46-yard scoring strike from Simmons in the second quarter. The conversion failed, but Lettow’s six-yard TD run minutes later was capped by Simmons hitting Kade Polich for two points and a 22-0 halftime lead.

Lettow broke free on the first play of the second half, sprinting 59 yards to pay dirt. Simmons darted over the end line from four yards away midway through the period, with Simmons-to-Polich passes after both TDs pushing the score to 38-0.

The quarter ended in with W-G leading, 44-0, after Lettow scored for a fourth time, dashing home from 12 yards away.

Polich capped the scoring with a 10-yard run with just under nine minutes left to play, and the Hawk defense remained resolute, securing the shutout. W-G had defeated Madrid, 55-29, last season.

Lettow ran for 210 yards and four scores on 18 carries, with Polich adding 156 yards and a score on 12 rushes while Dylan Bird gained seven yards on three hauls.

Achenbach caught a 46-yard TD pass and a two-yard aerial, with Polich snatching one toss for a gain of 17 yards.

Reese Jamison’s seven total tackles led the defense, with Pacey Moats making 5.5 stops and recovering a Tiger fumble. Lettow had 5.5 tackles, with Polich in on five denials, including one sack and three tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

W-G returns to action Friday with a visit from Ogden, who dropped an 8-6 decision to visiting NW Webster in their opener.
