Indianola swims past host Perry

A talented Indianola team used experience and a deep roster to swamp Perry, 133-31, at the MCB Pool Tuesday.

The Jayettes were unable to post a win in any event, but Gracie Phillips was able to record a personal best time of 1 minute, 23.34 seconds while placing fourth in the 100 backstroke, with Jaylene Karolus posting her best high school time while touching second in the 50 free in 26.85 seconds. Phillips was fifth in the 50 free in 32.21.

Karolus was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:12.37, with Sarah Vaughn third in the 200 free (2:23.6) while Avery Miner placed fourth in the 200 individual medley (3:05.76).

Vaughn was third in the 500 free (6:27.43), Amanda Holwegner third in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.79), with Holwegner fourth (1:08.15) and Hailey Meachem fifth (1:14.38) in the 100 free.

Perry was third in all three relays. The 200 medley unit of Miner, Holwegner, Meacham and Phillips finished in 2:31.64, with the 200 free team of Miner, Phillips, Holwegner and Karolus touching in 2:05.99 while the 400 free quartet of Vaughn. Meacham, Miner and Karolus reached the wall in 4:37.36.

Perry will join Algona for a double-dual at Boone Sept. 10, with Perry and Indianola visiting Des Moines Roosevelt Sept. 12. The Jayettes return home Sept. 17 when Storm Lake and Algona visit for a meet beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Boone meet will start at 6 p.m. and the DM Roosevelt meet at 5:30 p.m.
