ADEL, Iowa — An Adel woman was arrested Monday morning on a charge of assault, and another Adel woman was arrested Tuesday evening on the same charge. The cases are unrelated.
The first incident occurred about 5:45 a.m. Monday, when a woman allegedly assaulted her sleeping brother, who was also her roommate.
Brianna Cheree Kotowski, 28, of 219 N. 12th St., #4, Adel, was arrested by officers of the Adel Police Department in connection with the incident.
According to court records, the brother and sister were “arguing about being evicted soon.” As the victim tried to sleep, Kotowski allegedly “came up and began to strike him in the face, complaining about the eviction.”
The victim claimed he “then reached out to push her away, reaching to her throat in order to get away from her,” according to court records.
When law enforcement arrived on scene, they found the victim with “a scratch on his nose and swelling under his left eye” as a result of the alleged assault.
Kotowski is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 4.
In the second alleged assault, Emily Sue Branchcomb, 34, of 52 Rapids St., Adel, was arrested by Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs on a charge of domestic abuse assault in connection with a disturbance at the home of her ex-husband.
According to court records, Six-Branchcomb arrived at her ex-husband’s residence at 18851 240th St. about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in order to confront the ex-husband’s current girlfriend over “derogatory comments she was making via electronic communications.”
When the girlfriend retreated to a locked bedroom, Six-Branchcomb allegedly turned her fury on the ex-husband, “assaulting him with her fists to his face,” according to court records.
The fight soon led to their “tussling on the ground of the living room” and by the time law enforcement arrived on scene, both Six-Branchcomb and the victim “had visible injuries and blood on them.”
Six-Branchcomb was released Wednesday from the Dallas County Jail after posting a $1,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 24 in Dallas County District Court.
Six-Branchcomb was convicted in Dallas County District Court in 2013 of disorderly conduct-fighting or violent behavior and assault on peace officers.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
