
ADEL — Perry had all five of their cross country teams in action Tuesday, a meet pushed back from Monday.
Perry competed in both varsity and both middle school two-mile races, with the Bluejay Junior Varsity also in action. Perry does not have a girls JV squad.
Des Moines Christian won the boys varsity race with 34 points, with ADM second at 64 and Urbandale third at 103. Perry was 10th of 11 team at 246.
Anthony Chavez crossed 27th, in 19 minutes, 40 seconds, to lead Perry. Bryan Funez (32nd, 20:09), Tanney Burgin (58th, 21:36) Erick Funez (64th, 21:59) and Calvin Sass (65th, 22:13) also scored for the Jays. Cole Nelson (69th, 22:43) and Chase Archer (70th, 22:50) also ran varsity.
Riece Graham (26th, 22:10) led the Bluejay JV, with Jason Chavez (32nd, 23:04), Gannon Meis (37th, 23:29), Jonahan Chavez (42nd, 25:46) and Sergio Gonzalez (47th, 29:26) also scored, with Sebastian Hernandez 48th in 30:35.
Perry’s grade 7-8 boys were paced by Oscar Bellrand, who crossed fourth in 12:09. Own Myers (36th, 13:56), Garrett Winey (67th, 15:27), Alex Burgin (78th, 16:34) and Reygan Gitkins (79th, 16:36) rounded out the scoring, with AIden Burgin (87th, 18:06) and Oscar Villalobos (88th, 18:14) also making the circuit.
Jayette sophomore Jaylene Karolus continued to impress Tuesdsay, finishing third overall in a swift 21:23.
Ballard (43) won the team title, with Perry seventh of eight at 179.
Molly Lutmer (25:38) and Hannah Peterson (25:45) were 40-41 for Perry, with Kennedy Tunink (26:43) and Hailey Peterson (29:26) crossing 44th and 51st, respectively.
Quin Mahler-Moreno finished 13th, in 14:35, to lead the Jayette Middle School squad. Amy Diaz and Olivia Christensen both finished in 16:12 (33-34) for Perry, with Tayrn Nehring (52nd, 16:50) and Julie Maylum (62nd, 17:15) also scoring. Also running for the Jayettes were Kassidy Atwell (64th, 17:18) and Isabella Burgus (66th, 17:42).
Perry runs today at the AC/GC Invitational and will host the annual Leon Fox Invitational Oct. 3.
