W-G harriers compete in Adel Tuesday

ADEL — The Woodward-Granger cross country program was out in force Tuesday, with the boys and girls varsity, boys and girls middle school and boys junior varsity teams all in competition at the ADM Invite. W-G does not have a girls JV squad.

DMC (34), ADM (64) and Urbandale (103) were the top three boys varsity team finishers, with W-G seventh of 11 teams with 175 points.

Dylan Steele finished 10th, in 18 minutes, 40 seconds, to lead the Hawks. Xavier Ibarra and Caleb Jones were 35-38, in 20:16 and 20:20, respectively, with Alex Bice 44th in 20:31 and Carsten Wright 48th in 20:42. Jack Grell (59th, 21:39) and Kaya Bowlsby (60th, 21:42) also in action.

The girls varsity race was won by Ballard with 43 points, with W-G eighth at 233.

Natalie Helbling (26:03), Katie Grell (26:48), Kaitlyn Smith (27:41), Makenzie Dresback (28:15) and Sydney Grell (29:44) placed 42-45-48-50-52 to account for the team points. Madisyn Mann (53rd, 30:00) also ran for the Hawks.

The W-G JV boys had five runners in action. Andrew Anderson (22:21), Nick Buch (22:59), Elijah Bell (23:16), Joel Harney (24:35) and Kurt Crouse (24:51) crossed 30-31-34-38-39 for the Hawks.

Middle school races are two miles in length, and Dillon Limoges leading the W-G boys by crossing 61st in 14:53. Aiden Topalovich (15:00), Casey Foster (15:18), Sterling Parkinson (15:53) and Grant Polito (16:12) also scored, finishing 63-66-71-74. Tyler Anousis (80th, 16:43) and Shaefer Hanson (84th, 17:19) made the circuit as well.

The grade 7-8 girls received a 25th-place finish, in 15:33, from Libby Grell, with Avery Smith 53rd in 16:51. Lauren Rodgers was 72nd in 19:18 and Alexis Bogardus 73rd in 19:23 with Bronwyn Fridinger 86th in 27:27.
