
GUTHRIE CENTER — The Perry cross country teams both finished in second place, and had a second and an eighth-place best finisher, Thursday at the AC/GC Invitational.
AC/GC won the girls side with 15 points as harrier/track star senior Kate Crawford won in 20 minutes, 45.01 seconds. Perry was second at 59 points, with sophomore Jaylene Karolus crossing second overall in 21:17.44.
Molly Lutmer (25:33.39) and Hannah Peterson (26:05.04) were 11-13 for the Jayettes, with Kennedy Tunink (26:05.26) and Hailey Peterson (29:10.36) 14-18 to cap the Perry scorers. Assel Samuratova (21st, 31:51.62) also ran for the varsity.
The boys team title went to host AC/GC with 17 points, with Perry at 59.
Anthony Chavez paced the Bluejays by placing eighth in 19:50.74. Bryan Funez (10th, 20:24.48), Hayden McFarland (12th, 21:08.65 in his first action of the season), Calvin Sass (14th, 21:45.59) and Erick Funez (15th, 21:57.25) also scored team points. Tanner Burgin (16th, 22:11.5) and Cole Nelson (17th, 22:25.12) also made the varsity rounds.
Oscar Bellrand was first (13:13.8) and Owen Myers (14:42.21) fourth for the grade 7-8 Bluejays in the two-mile middle school race. Garrett Winey (9th, 15:55.28), and Alec (16:55.74) and Aiden (16:59.87) Burgin, 12-13, scored for Perry. Reygan Gitkins (16th, 17:12.96) and Oscar Villalobos (17th, 18:15.69) made the rounds as well.
Quin Mahler-Moreno (16:00.18), Olivia Christensen (17:11.95) and Julie Maylum (17:23.36) were 3-8-9 for the Jayettes, with Amy Diaz 11th in 17:41.7 and Maria Aguilar 17th in 18:43.71. Also in action were Taryn Nehring (18th, 18:45.42) and Isabella Burugus (19th, 18:47.14).
Perry returns to action Thursday when they host the Leon Fox Invite at the Perry Golf and Country Club.
