Perry High School students were artfully painting the windows of local businesses Saturday, bringing Bluejay spirit to the start of the 2019 PHS Homecoming Week.

“Is this Heaven? No, It’s Perry!” is the theme for this year and many of the windows either touched on that theme or played off the name of the business whose windows were being painted.

Leading up to Friday night’s PHS football game against Webster City, each weekday will be themed, with students urged to dress in the style appropriate to the day’s theme. Monday will be Patriotic Day, and Tuesday is Camouflage Day, with home room doors decorated in the theme. Wednesday is Volunteer Day.

Students will disperse across the Perry area Wednesday, wearing their blue volunteer t-shirts and performing a wide variety of community services. They will enjoy a lunchtime cookout at Dewey Field.

The Homecoming Parade is Wednesday evening, with entrants lining up at the PHS parking lot at 5:30 p.m. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and proceed down Willis Avenue to Second Street, where it will turn north and proceed for a block, ending outside the Raccoon Valley Bank.

A grill-meat dinner will be served after the parade, with proceeds going to the Junior Class Prom Committee. Guest speakers will address the crowd, and the Perry football team will sign posters and pose for selfies.

The Booster Club will sell Perry sportswear, and youngsters will divert themselves with bracelet making.

Thursday brings ag-centered Country Day, with the coronation beginning at 8 p.m. and the bonfire following.

Freshmen (red), sophomores (white), juniors (black) and seniors (blue) will dress in class colors on Game Day Friday. Activities will begin at 1:10 p.m. in the PHS gym. Classes will vie all week for the honor of winning the Spirit Stick, which the victorious class will parade before the stands at halftime.

The Class of 2020 is sponsoring the halftime fireworks show, with the Homecoming Dance to be held in the PHS Commons from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m.
