TRURO — The Woodward-Granger football team was finally able to scratch an annoying itch Friday, thanks at an 18-7 win over host Interstate-35 in their Class 1A District 7 meeting.

The Roadrunners (2-3, 0-1) have vexed the Hawks (3-2, 1-0) several times in the past seasons, winning close games and twice doing so under circumstances that left more than a few of the W-G faithful wondering how a ruling had been, or not been, made.

W-G left little to chance Friday, responding from a 7-0 deficit after one quarter with a Tate Lettow dive into the paint, closing the gap to 7-6 at the break.

When the Hawks have needed a long-distance score in the past few seasons they have turned to wide out Bryce Achenbach, and on Friday the senior again answered the bell. Reese Jamison let fly on a long ball, Achenbach ran under it, and 74 yards later the Hawks had a 12-7 lead, where it remained throughout the quarter.

Lettow broke tackles to score from 24 yards out in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring and snap a two-game Hawk skid.

Jamison was 5-of-10 for 106 yards and a TD while gaining a yard on eight rushes.

Achenbach caught three balls for 94 yards and a score while Kade Polich snagged two passes for 12 yards.

Lettow finished with 141 yards and two TDs on 26 carries, with Polich rumbling for 46 yards on eight touches.

Jamison and Lettow led the defense with eight, and seven, tackles, respectively, with Jamison helping win the field-position battle by averaging 42 yards on four punts.

Trevor Simmons and John McKeever had two sacks apiece, with Jack Muesberger also making a sack.

W-G will be the visiting team at Hawk Field Friday as they face winless Woodward Academy (0-5, 0-1), who fell, 59-16, to Pella Christian Sept. 27.
