Ellen Kading, 90, of Perry passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at MercyOne Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 13 from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.

Memorials will be given to Spring Valley Retirement Community in Perry and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Ellen Anne (Herriott) Kading was born July 28, 1929, to Kenneth and Martha Marie (Jensen) Herriott near Casey, Iowa.

Following graduation from Casey High School, Ellen briefly attended college.

She worked at an Atlantic dime store, where she met Merle Leroy Kading. On Jan. 29, 1949, Merle and Ellen were married at the United Methodist Church in Casey. Together they celebrated a 65th wedding anniversary in 2014.

Together they farmed near Greenfield, Iowa, and the Dawson/Perry area. Ellen was a lifelong farm wife and enjoyed the annual gardening, canning foods, walking beans and sewing.

Together they enjoyed the timber with wildflowers and wildlife.

She enjoyed several years as a 4-H leader for the Perry Pepperettes club.

After raising four children, she worked the Perry Bridal Shop with tailoring and alterations.

Survivors include her son, Roger (Diana) Kading of Ankeny; son, Lee (Linda Johnson) Kading of Panora; daughter, Jean Tingwald of Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter, Joy Bristle of Cave Creek, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kirk (Charmain) Kading of Mesa, Ariz., Keisha (Matt) Cretsinger of Huxley, Khye (Carrie) Kading of Grimes, Warren Bristle of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jessica Tingwald of Longmont, Colo., and Tyler (Mikayla) Tingwald of Cheyenne, Wyo.; great-grandchildren, Niyah and Griffin Cretsinger of Huxley, Rory Kading of Grimes, Dawson and Sawyer Bristle of Scottsdale, Ariz., Nora White of Longmont, Colo., and Taylor and Heinrick “Hank” Tingwald of Cheyenne, Wyo.; along with very special nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; sons-in-law, Timothy Tingwald and Mark Bristle; sisters-in-law, Betty Kading, Virginia Kading and Elaine Kading; and brothers-in-law, Earl Kading, Donald Kading and Eugene Kading.
