W-G grapplers participate in Ogden Duals

OGDEN — A pair of close losses sent the Woodward-Granger wrestling team to a 2-3 result at the Ogden Duals Saturday.

W-G dropped a 58-15 outcome to Humboldt to start their day, then suffered a 39-34 loss to Gilbert and a 42-39 setback to Carroll. The Hawks responded with a pair of lopsided wins, beginning with a 51-22 victory over Graetting-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and a 58-14 triumph over East Sac County.

Cody Fisher was the lone Hawk to finish the day undefeated. He was 4-0 with three pins and a major decision at 220 pounds, and stepped up to 285 to record a pin for his fifth win of the day.

Peyton Nixon (106 pounds) and Joel Harney (113) were both 4-1. Nixon had two pin fall wins and two forfeits, with Harney pinning three foes while receiving a forfeit.

Matthew White (132) also had a 4-1 outing, winning once by decision, once (5-3) in sudden victory and twice by forfeit.

Tjaden Smeltzer was 3-2 at 126 with a pin and two forfeits, Dustin Harney 3-2 at 152 with two pins and a major decision, Cale Pritchett 3-2 at 170 with a trio of pins and Devan Brown 3-2 at 195 with two forfeits and one win via injury default.

Corbyn Atwell had a pin and a forfeit in posting a 2-3 mark at 120, with Jayden Flugge-Smith (138) 1-4 with a forfeit, Jon McKeever (160) 1-4 with a decision and Kade Polich (182) 1-4 with a forfeit.

Heavyweight Alex Evans wrestled four times, winning once, with a pin, while Brayden Simons was unable to collect a win in five matches at 145 pounds.

W-G will return to action Saturday when they hit the mats at the WCAC Tournament in Panora, which begins at 10 a.m.
