Host Panthers place third at WCAC mat tourney

PANORA — Two champions and three runner-up finishers helped Panorama place third in Saturday’s WCAC Tournament. The Panthers finished behind team champion Van Meter/Earlham (225.5 points) and runner-up Woodward-Granger (205.) by scoring 153.5 points despite leaving five weight classes (106, 113, 126, 132 and 285) uncontested.

Wyatt Appleseth (15-0) used a pair of pins to win top honors at 152 pounds for Panorama, with Emry Colby (17-1) using a decision and two pins to win the 145-pound bracket.

Logan Christe (15-4) was 2-1 with a pair of pins to finish second at 120 pounds, with Landon Goodenberger (10-8) using a decision and a pin to finish 2-1 and with second place at 160 pounds while 182-pounder Cooper Anderson (6-2) was 1-1 with a pin in placing second as well.

Ryan Fees (12-9) was 3-1 with two pins and a technical fall to place third at 138, with Luke South (5-2) 2-1 with a decision and a pin to finish third at 170.

Panorama was fourth at both 195 and 220. Keyton Van Gundy (8-12) was 2-2 with two pins at 195 while James Hein (13-4) was 1-2 with a pin.
