WOODWARD — Head coach Brent Achenbach has the W-G boys off to a 6-1 start, a clip that includes a 4-1 WCAC mark, and while all coaches can always spot room for improvement, the Hawks are doing the great majority of things quite well.
W-G has outscored their opposition 467-237, an average of 32.9 points per game. They are shooting 38-of-102 (37.3 percent) on 3-pointers and 69-of-102 (67.6) at the foul line, and their 52.8 percent clip on all field goals is third-best in Class 2A.
The Hawks have 116 assists on 180 total field goals, have made 108 steals against 69 turnovers and average 26.3 rebounds per outing.
Scoring has been well-distributed, with Bryce Achenbach leading the pack at 14 points per game. Pacey Moats (9.6), Reese Jamison (8.6), Keith Braunschweig (8.6), Kaya Bowlsby (8.3), Alex Bice (6.4) and Nick Buch (6.0) have made it tough for opponents to single out who to target. All are shooting better than 50 percent from the floor.
Achenbach has 38 assists and 16 steals and is clearing 5.4 boards per game, with Bowlsby having 24 thefts. Moats has landed 10-of-21 treys, has 20 assists and joins Braunschweig in starting the season 11-of-12 at the stripe.
W-G returns to action Friday when they host Madrid. They visit Pleasantville Jan. 7 and will then entertain AC/GC Jan. 10.
