The Growing Food and Profit group will meet Monday, Jan. 6 at the Raccoon Valley Bank Community Room at 590 Sugar Grove Ave. in Dallas Center.

The Growing Food and Profit group will hold its first meeting of the year Jan. 6 at the Raccoon Valley Bank Community Room, 590 Sugar Grove Ave. in Dallas Center.

This meeting will be a time to connect and re-connect with other food growers and those interested in consuming locally grown foods. The evening will be a chance to swap and share information on everything from varieties and techniques, locating tools or equipment, to sharing resources and beyond. Ideas for future programs will also be discussed.

The meeting will begin with a potluck meal at 6:30 p.m. Attendees should bring a dish to share and their own table service. Coffee and water will be provided. This will be a “Swap and Share” night. In the past, this meeting has seen a variety of free and cost items and sharing of information. Some past “Swap and Share” offerings included:

  • Empty egg cartoons to give to someone who could use them
  • Questions on the best brand of equipment to purchase or equipment for sale
  • Suggestions for vegetable varieties, seeds to share
  • Suggestions on sources of seed potatoes, sweet potato slips, etc.
  • Extra vegetable or supply catalogs or books to give away
  • Extra hand tools to give or swap
  • Extra new packaging to sell reasonably or at cost
  • Useful websites

Whether you are a food grower, someone interested in growing food or an “eater” of locally grown foods, you are welcome to attend.

The GFP group is sponsored by ISU Extension in Dallas County. For more information, contact Linda Nelson at 515-491-3984 or Lsnelson1@hotmail.com.
