The absence of cheerleaders will be just one of several changes coming to the state wrestling tournaments this year.

The Perry Pulse Dancers and both the basketball and wrestling cheerleaders were recently recognized for academic success.

Academic recognition for dance members required — as the All-Raccoon River Conference scholastic honors demand — that a student be at least a sophomore and have a GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.

Dancers honored included Beyonce Gonzalez, Emma Stika, Lindsey Oblea, Maria Izquierdo, Marielena Ramirez, Sarah Vaughn, Nubia Torres, Macie Mosher, Sierra Shore-Newton, Claire Southward and Shelby De La Cruz.

Basketball cheerleaders earning All-Academic honors from the RRC included Maria Izquierdo, Claire Southward, Nubia Torres and Cindy Troung, with similar honors earned by wrestling cheerleaders Rylynn Gilmore, Angela Hernandez, Shelby De La Cruz, Jasmine Shriver, Carly Herrera, Jacqueline Guardado, and Eliza Cunningham.

The wrestling cheer squad also earned a Distinguished Academic Achievement Award for a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.25, while the basketball cheerleaders garnered an Academic Excellence Achievement Award for a team GPA of 3.0-3.24.
