The Perry High School Class of 2020 is experiencing an end to their final year of K-12 education that none could have foreseen, but they are far from forgotten.
PHS Principal Dan Marburger announced a trio of events tied to the senior class, including the curbside distribution of graduation caps and gowns. Students are asked to pull up to the main doors, where staff — who will be wearing masks and gloves — will bring a cap/gown to the vehicle. Yards signs saying “Perry High School Class of 2020 graduate lives here” will be given to each senior.
Those who have not yet paid for their graduation cap and gown may do so Monday with either cash or a check. Receipts will be provided.
Distribution will be held from 3-6 p.m.
Senior Awards Night will be held May 21 and broadcast live on the school facebook page from the Perry Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Academic awards and financial scholarships will be announced at that time, and information on how to receive the awards and where to pick them up will be announced at that time.
A student-focused “Scoop the Loop” will rumble through Perry May 22. It is hoped as many seniors in the class of 2020 as possible will participate.
Beginning at the high school circle drive, the “Scoop” will roll down Willis Ave to downtown and then return. The gathering will begin at 6 p.m in the high school lot and will take place from 7-8 p.m.
Willis Ave will be lined with signs saluting the individual members of the Class of 2020, and those in spring sports who were denied a Senior Day will have their uniform/jersey displayed on the fence at Dewey Field, which will be illuminated for the occasion.
