The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has issued a freeze warning for Monday, May 11 from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 are forecast over portions of northern, western and northwestern Iowa, the NWS advisory said.

Frost and freeze conditions mighty harm crops and other sensitive vegetation and could possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

The NWS advises growers to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. In-ground sprinkler systems should be drained, and above-ground pipes should be covered to protect from freezing.

Along with Dallas County, the freeze warning comprises the counties of Franklin, Butler, Bremer, Hamilton, Hardin, Boone, Story, Dallas, Adair and Adams.

Along with Perry, the freeze warning includes the cities of Hampton, Parkersburg, Clarksville, Shell Rock, Greene, Aplington, Allison, Dumont, Waverly, Webster City, Iowa Falls, Eldora, Ackley, Boone, Ames, Waukee, Adel, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle and Corning.
