A Perry man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Sunday for violating the terms of his probation for domestic abuse assault.
Michael Edward Eber Hoover, 42, of 2024 W. Third St., Perry, was charged with probation violation on an original charge of third-offense domestic abuse assault.
Hoover was arrested in September 2018 and convicted in December 2018 of second-offense domestic abuse assault after an incident with his girlfriend during which he “punched her in the face,” according to court records.
In a plea agreement reached with the Dallas County Attorney’s office, Hoover was sentenced to two years’ probation. As part of the plea agreement, Hoover was ordered to attend Iowa Domestic Assault Program (IDAP) classes, but he never enrolled or attended the IDAP classes, and his probation was revoked in January 2020.
An arrest warrant was ordered in January and served June 7 by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.
Hoover is held without bond in the Dallas County Jail. He is scheduled for a hearing June 12 in Dallas County District Court.
Hoover was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault in 2012 in Marshall County District Court. He was convicted of second-offense domestic abuse assault in 2017 in Tama County District Court.
