Commencement exercises for the Perry High School Class of 2020 will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. on Dewey Field.

The stage is set for the Saturday, June 13 Perry High School graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 at Dewey Field.

The forecast looks fair for the outside ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. A practice session was held Friday morning.

“This will be a new experience for all of us,” said PHS Principal Dan Marburger, “and we are very excited to be able to celebrate our students in person.”

Marburger reminded families and friends of the graduating seniors that tickets are required for admission to Saturday’s event. Each graduate received four tickets.

Graduates will be seated in folding chairs along the track and facing the high school. They will be divided alphabetically, with last names A-Martin white tickets and those Martinez-Z blue tickets.

A stage has been set up near the 20 yard line, and students will be called to the stage in alternating rotation, one from the blue section followed by one from the white section.

Graduates are asked to arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. and to gather in the gym. Because of ongoing construction, only a limited amount of parking will be available on the hard lot at the school. Attendees are asked to park in the lot south of Dewey Field.

Handicap parking will be available in the main high school lot. Entrance to Dewey Field will be through the main gates on 18th Street only.

Each student has received four tickets for the ceremony at graduation practice. Everyone, including infants and children, will need to have a ticket for entrance.

Tickets will be color coded white (last names A-Martin) or blue (Martinez- Z). Blue tickets for the Dewey Field ceremony will be seated on the south bleachers, and white tickets will be seated on north bleachers.

Diplomas and award/scholarship packets will be available for pickup at tables in front of the main entrance/auditorium. Look for signs with your last name. You will return all cords and stoles at this time.

Attendees will be required to follow social distancing guidelines. Face masks are encouraged but not required. All graduates will be provided with a Bluejay face mask on graduation day.

Attendees are asked to avoid bringing large balloon bouquets that might impede other people’s view of the ceremonies and to omit novelties such as silly string, which might stick and melt in the warm temperatures. Confetti and glitter are welcome.

Please be considerate as names are called out. For example, do not blow air horns or
carrying on so long that the next person’s name cannot be heard. Please be patient and understand that this is a first for all of us.

Graduates are asked to arrive on time and ready to go for both practice and graduation. The ceremony will be streamed live on Facebook.
