Mark Gordon Parmenter, 56, of Elkhart and formerly of Perry was killed Tuesday afternoon when the lawn mower he was driving in the 6200 block of N.E. 126th Avenue in rural Elkhart was struck by a passing pickup truck.

A former Perry man was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a passing vehicle while driving a lawn mower near his Elkhart property.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s office, Mark Gordon Parmenter, 56, of 12623 N.E. 64th St., Elkhart, was proceeding eastward on his lawn mower shortly after 4 p.m. in the 6200 block of N.E. 126th Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound pickup truck, operated by a 45-year-old male.

Parmenter’s body was thrown nearly 90 feet from the point of impact.

“The victim was found a little ways down on the side of the road in a ditch,” according to Polk County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Rullman. “EMS personnel, Ankeny Fire Department and our deputies found the victim, started CPR and also tripped out Methodist LifeFlight for air transport. They did transport him to Methodist Hospital, but at the hospital he succumbed to his injuries.”

No citations were issued, Rullman said, and the incident remains under investigation.

The Elkhart Fire Department also responded.

  1. Did you have to use a mug shot of the deceased? Perhaps a little more cropping of a photo could be done to get rid of that orange jumpsuit. I hope you do not use the same one for the obit.

  2. I’m completely appalled that you would choose to use this photograph and not consult the family to find one! You and I know that all of his charges were not only gone, but they have been expunged completely from his record! You have no problem linking Mark and Eric Parmenter together, but you have a very difficult time of saying anything negative about the alleged victim, Kendra Gliem, and her grandfather, Deke Gliem. It is shocking how the story of what he was convicted for, as a deputy sheriff for Dallas County, resembles what she alleges about Mark and Eric! Absolutely disgusting! You all should be ashamed!

  3. I’m appalled that you, Mary Beveridge Parmenter, would attack the victim of your convicted son by indicating that the actions of your former husband were “alleged” and then to attack her dead grandfather, who didn’t have a former county attorney, like Dennis Wayne Parmenter, to advise him that by pleading guilty, he could then have all of the records expunged! No wonder our courts system looks like white privilege. You should be ashamed! This is his karma! You know that this was not the first time that Mark had been accused of sexual predation. Maybe ThePerryNews.com should submit a Freedom of Information Act requesting information on the circumstances surrounding the discharge of your husband from the military or why he stopped working at the Hy-Vee in Perry! I know that there are more victims out there, and so do you!

  4. You are so right, Emily Hanson! Mary Beverage Parmenter is now playing the grieving ex-spouse because she has an agenda. She has been going to her mother-in-law’s house as well as Mary’s daughter Michelle, who has absolutely nothing to do with her grandmother or father since her parents divorced. Vultures are circling. I hope the victim of the Parmenter family, yes, you too Mary Parmenter, are feeling a small relief. Although there is still one more predator who will eventually be out in society, until the other girls who fell victim to Eric finally come forward and also tell their stories of how he raped them too. Mark Parmenter was a sexual predator, so why wouldn’t his son be one, too? Runs in the family. Sandra Parmenter and her step-son attorney, Dennis Parmenter, have blood on their hands! Had they stopped protecting Mark Parmenter and let him be held accountable, he would still be alive and in prison right alongside his son, Eric.

  5. Mary KNOWS her son and mark are both guilty! She thinks because she goes to church and prays to the invisible man in the sky that all is forgiven, but she’s wrong! I thought she was an advocate for sexual abuse victims, but instead she is a demon who condones it! She’s one of the worst kind of humans you could ever know. Mark has always been a pos. Even Eric didn’t want to be around him and disowned him. But let’s not forget all of the young girls Eric took sexual advantage of. Didn’t he get a 16-year-old girl pregnant when he was in his 20s? What a creep! Like father, like son. Mary, you are a disgrace to young women everywhere.
