GRANGER — The Woodward-Granger baseball team was a double-victor Saturday, defeating the Ankeny Christian Academy Eagles, 8-0, after topping the Eagles of Pella Christian, 3-2.

The Hawks (5-1-1) continued their heart-stopping trend in the nightcap by waiting until their last at-bat to defeat Pella Chrisian (1-3).

Neither team could grab a decisive edge in the first varsity game. W-G had a 1-0 edge after four frames, but Pella Christian tied the game with a run in the fifth. The Hawks resumed the lead with a tally in the bottom of the fifth, but a single Eagle run in the sixth knotted the score at 2-all.

Colby Tague doubled in the bottom of the seventh for W-G, with Tate Lettow inserted to run. He scored when a Reese Jamison bouncer to third base was turned into an error, giving the hosts the victory.

Jamison has a single, double, run, RBI and stolen base in the win, with Jack Grell having a double and a RBI. Bryce Achenbach singled, stole two bases and scored to add to the attack.

Brandon Worley went the distance for the win. He allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out eight.

The Nardini twins combined with Nate Rosen to stop ACA in the nightcap. Freshman Brody tossed five frame, walking four and yielding a hit while fanning five. Brother Collin struck out two, with Nate Rosen finishing up by striking out two and walking one.

Jamison scored twice and drove in a run on three singles, with Trevor Simmons and Worth Henry each producing a pair of singles and driving in a run. Tague had a double and scored twice, with Brody Nardini adding a two-base hit. Singles from Achenbach and Grell rounded out the offense.

W-G hosts WCV Monday, visits Martensdale-St. Marys Tuesday and then hosts Madrid Wednesday. They will visit ADM Thursday and then play their fifth game in as many days by entertaining South Tama Friday.
