The Perry Farmers Market 2020 summer season begins Thursday, July 2 at 4 p.m. on Second Street between Willis Avenue and Warford Street in downtown Perry.

Starting this week, Second Street will be closed to through traffic and to parking between Willis Avenue and Warford Street from 2:30-7:30 p.m. every Thursday through September. Drop-off/Pick-up traffic from Willis Avenue onto 2nd Street will be directed to the alley south of Josh Davis Plaza.

The Perry Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the weekly marketplace, said it is taking virus-related precautions to keep buyers, sellers and volunteers safe:

  • A limited number of vendor stalls on Second Street will be available each week, offering the same great quality and variety of products, but the Josh Davis Plaza will not be used for selling in order to provide adequate social distancing between vendor booths.
  • No special events with guests or activities are planned for the 2020 season.
  • Vendors are required to wear face masks and shoppers are encouraged to do so as well.
  • Vendors are asked not to reuse bags, and shoppers are asked not to touch produce in an effort to minimize contamination of any kind.
  • Sampling is prohibited.

  1. More than 10,000 people are going to be in Algona, Iowa, this week to celebrate the Fourth of July at the ABATE rally with 19 bands, but Perry’s farmers market can’t have special activities or guests to get more customers out to buy produce from the vendors? Seriously? Do bikers (and protesters) have greater resistance to COVID-19, or do they have more rights to choose to (no one forces you to go to a Farmers market) “peacefully assemble” unlike us?
