A Perry man was arrested Aug. 8 after allegedly punching his mother in the face twice in the course of an argument.
Dakota Bradley Barrett, 20, of 1624 Seventh St., Perry, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident began about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 8, when officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1600 block of Seventh Street after a caller said “that her son, Dakota Bradley Barrett, had struck her in the face,” according to court records.
The officers made contact with the victim, who said Barrett “became upset and hit her twice in the face with a closed fist” before he “left on her purple bicycle,” according to court records.
Officers observed the victim’s face with “visible swelling, redness and a start of a bruise on
her left cheek/eye.”
Officers later made contact with Barrett on the purple bicycle at a gas station, where he was arrested on the assault charge.
Officers “noticed Barrett’s hands were extremely sweaty, an indication that he was nervous,” according to court records. When the officers “asked him if he had anything on him,” Barrett said “he had a needle on him in his right pocket.”
Officers found a hypodermic needle with “a very small trace amount of a brown-like substance inside of it that is consistent with methamphetamine.”
Barrett is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearingĀ Aug. 18 in Dallas County District Court.
