A Booneville man died early Thursday when he ran a stop light in downtown Indianola, and his vehicle was struck broadside.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, James Darrin Cox, 55, of Booneville was traveling eastbound on E. Second Avenue (Iowa Highway 92) about 3:45 a.m. Thursday in a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Cox “made an improper pass” and “ran a red light” at the intersection of S. Jefferson Way (U.S. Highway 65/69), according to the crash report.
George K. Kimemia, 36, of Overland, Kansas, was traveling northbound on S. Jefferson Way (U.S. Highway 65/69) in a 2020 International box truck and “had a green light,” according to the crash report, and Kimemia’s vehicle struck Cox’s vehicle in the intersection.
Cox was pronounced dead at the scene, and he was transported to the office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner in Ankeny. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, the report said.
Kimemia was not injured in the incident.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, according to the crash report.
The Indianola Police Department also responded.
