
GOWRIE — The cross country season kicked off Thursday for the Panorama harriers as the Panthers visited Southeast Valley.
The Panorama girls won their side of the 11-scoring team event with 47 points. Fort Dodge St Edmond was second at 63, AC/GC third at 88, Madrid fourth at 112 and NW Webster fifth at 132. The Gaels (FDSE) are 11th in Class 1A, the Chargers seventh in 1A, the Tigers 10th in 1A, and the Cougars third in 1A. The Panthers are listed as “receiving votes.”
The Panther boys have only four team members, and just two ran Thursday. Avery Norman was 74th in 24 minutes, 17 seconds, with Paul Hansen 90th in 25:21.
Defending 1A champ and top-ranked Madrid won the meet with 52 points, with AC/GC second at 56 and 10th-rated Ogden third at 61. A total of 12 teams scored on the boys side.
Panther senior Ella Waddle set a meet and school record (for the course) of 20:44 in winning the girls race. Gwen Steffen was second in 21:35 and Olivia Steffen fifth in 22:11, with Mia Waddle fourth at 24:44 while Leah Fett placed 27th in 25:29.
Deana Solorzano (60th, 30:32) and Avery Bahrenfuss (79th, 32:31) also competed for the Panthers but did not have their scores used.
Panorama returns to action Thursday with a visit to Pella.
