The end of summer, marked by Labor Day, will be followed up by near-record cold in the Perry area mid-week.
KCCI-TV Meteorologist Jason Sydejko noted Saturday on his Facebook page that Iowa’s lowest high temperature for Sept. 8 occurred in 1885, when the mercury climbed to only 58 degrees. The coldest high for Sept. 9 was 54 degrees in 1898, he said.
Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week are forecast to reach only into the low to mid-50s.
“If that happens, it could be truly historic cold for this time of year,” Sydejko said.
