DES MOINES — Host Des Moines Lincoln had little trouble topping Perry and Algona in a girls swimming double-dual Thursday.
The format used calls for each team to be scored individually against each opponent. Lincoln downed Perry, 77-22, and Algona, 71-30, while Algona defeated Perry, 56-37. The Railsplitters scored some points from diving; neither Perry nor Algona have divers.
Haley Vaughn was first against both opponents in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 34.59 seconds. She was first against Algona and second to Lincoln while tying her personal best in the 100 breaststroke with a clocking of 1:21.43, while Haileigh Kenyon was first against Algona and second to Lincoln in the 50 freestyle in 28.54 ticks
Breanna Penenger was second against both teams and Kenyon third against both in the 200 free on times of 2:23.3 and 2:23.35, respectively, with Peneger second to Algona and third to Lincoln in the 500 free after touching in 6:34.27.
Vivian Gonzalez scored for Perry in individual events as well, with the sophomore second to Algona and third to Lincoln in both the 100 free (1:10.17) and the 100 backstroke (1:23.38).
Perry topped Algona and was second to Lincoln in the 200 freestyle relay, with Vaughn, Kenyon, Anna Ridnour and Sadee Whitfield teaming for a 2:01.39 posting, with the foursome of Kenyon, Penenger, Vaughn and Whitfield second to Algona and third to Lincoln in the 200 medley relay in 2:18.99.
Gonzalez, Whitfield, Penenger and Breanna Ackerman swam the 400 free relay, finishing in 4:57.72, a time which placed Perry second to Algona and third to Lincoln.
All three Perry relays dropped time compared to Tuesday’s meet at Des Moines Hoover. New personal bests were set by Penenger in the 200 freestyle, by Ackerman in the JV 100 freestyle (1:22.79) and by Ridnour in the 100 breaststroke (1:38.36).
Perry is off until September 8 when they are joined by Algona for a double-dual at Boone. The meet will begin at 6 p.m.
