W-G matmen have strong showing at AC/GC

GUTHRIE CENTER — Four finalists and a trio of third-place finishers helped power Woodward-Granger to second place Saturday at the 16-team Charger Invite.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows won the meet with 243 points, with W-G second at 180 and Southeast Valley at 157.

Peyton Nixon (31-4) was second at 113 pounds with a 3-1 mark, recording a pin, a major decision (15-3) and a decision along the way.

Riece Graham (28-9) was second at 126 with a 13-7 decision and an 8-6 win in Sudden Victory I, with Alex Evans (24-3) using a pin and a 7-3 win to place second at heavyweight.

Also second was Dustin Harney (36-6), who won with a pin, a decision and a sudden victory win before falling to second-ranked and undefeated Wyatt Appleseth of Panorama in the finals.

Brayden Simons (13-14, 152 pounds) was 4-1 with three pins and technical fall, Jon McKeever (35-6, 170) was 3-1 with two pins and a decision while Kade Polich (37-8, 182) two pins and an injury default. All three placed third.

Placing seventh were Alex Saxton (27-16), who was 3-2 at 106 with a pin, a tech fall and a decision, Joel Harney (14-20) who was 1-2 with a pin at 120, and Jayden Flugge-Smith (22-18) who was 2-1 with two pins at 132.

Kolby Fogarty (12-19) was 1-3 with a pin to place eighth at 195, while Tjaden Smeltzer (10-28, 138 pounds) and Oliver Potter (12-12, 145 pounds) were both 0-2 at their respective weights.

W-G left the 220-pound bracket open.
