Perry boys drop final pair in regular season

ALLEMAN — North Polk soared to a 19-point lead after eight minutes of play Thursday to post a 64-21 win over visiting Perry in the regular season finale for the guests.

The Raccoon River Conference loss for Perry (0-19, 0-16) came after a 61-30 league setback to visiting Boone (6-13, 6-12) Tuesday.

Perry trailed, 21-2, after one frame Tuesday and faced a 37-9 hole at the intermission en route to falling to the Comets (9-12, 9-9).

Jeremy Mateso had six points and June Rey Riesberg five to lead Perry. The Bluejays received three points apiece from Brandon Mahler and Omar Jaimes, with Holden Smith and Jordan Ochoa scoring two points each.

Jack Bunkers led North Polk with 17 points, with Jevin Sullivan adding 16. A total of 12 Comets entered the scoring column.

Boone opened leads of 12-2 after one frame and of 39-8 after two in winning Tuesday.

Ochoa had 10 points to lead Perry. It was only the fourth time this season a Perry player scored in double-digits and the fourth in which the team scored a minimum of 30 points.

Mateson, Caden Steva and Drake Levan each had five points for the Jays, with Mahler providing three points and Riesberg two.

Nathaniel Winter (12), Wylan Haberer (11), and Marcus McPartland (10) led the Toreadors in scoring.

Perry will face host DC-G (17-3) Monday at 7 p.m. in a Class 3A Substate 8 contest. The winner returns to Grimes Feb. 25 to play the winner of ADM and Harlan.
