A Minburn man was arrested early Sunday after the pickup truck he was allegedly driving crashed into timber in Minburn.
Jacob Ryan Scherer, 28, of 724 Walnut St., Minburn, was charged with first-offense OWI.
The incident began about 1 a.m. Sunday, when a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff “came upon a white 2012 Ford F-250 in the ditch” at 195th and Second streets in Minburn that “drove straight off the curve and into the ditch,” according to court records.
The deputy “approached the vehicle and observed a male subject in the passenger seat, later identified as Jacob Scherer,” who “appeared to be dazed and had a large amount of blood on him. Scherer’s two front teeth were broken,” according to court records.
Scherer claimed that he was not driving the vehicle, but the deputy’s investigation led to the conclusion that Scherer was the alleged driver.
Liquor containers were found both inside and outside the vehicle, according to court records, and Scherer presented “slurred speech and bloodshot/watery eyes.” Scherer allegedly admitted he had two or three “screwdrivers” at a bar prior to the crash.
Scherer declined to perform field sobriety tests or take a preliminary breath test.
Scherer was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to an initial appearance in the Dallas County District Court.
Scherer was convicted of consumption/intoxication in 2011 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense OWI in 2014 in Jefferson County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense consumption of alcohol in a public place in 2014 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of public intoxication in 2017 in Polk County District Court.
