Veteran Perry Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Frank Eiteman was presented with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) State Firefighter of the Year Award Tuesday night in a ceremony at the Perry VFW Post 2060 hall.
Eiteman, a 38-year member of the Perry fire crew, was named Firefighter of the Year in October at the VFW State Conference in Des Moines, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented his attendance in person. The award was presented to Eiteman by Past VFW State Commander Russ Saffell.
Perry Police Department Officer Wayne Schuttler received the Iowa Police Officer of the Year award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Oct. 23 at the VFW’s annual state conference in Des Moines.
Honored alongside Eiteman was 26-year Perry Police Department Officer Wayne Schuttler, who was able to attend to VFW convention.
In November 2019 the VFW Post 2060 in Perry presented its annual Public Safety Awards to Eiteman and Schuttler, and the state-level awards extended the honors accorded Perry’s longtime public servants.
