A Lake City woman was arrested Saturday night for allegedly driving drunk and armed in Greene County.

Taylor Jayde Kelly, 29, of 208 W. Madison St., Lake City, was charged with first-offense OWI and possession or carrying of dangerous weapons while under the influence.

The incident began about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 30 near C Avenue, where an Iowa State Patrol Trooper observed a 2018 Jeep Wrangler being erratically driven in the westbound lanes of the federal highway.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Kelly, who told the trooper “that she has a weapons permit and there was a gun in the glove box,” according to court records.

The trooper allegedly observed that Kelly “had water eyes” and “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person,” according to court records.

A Sig Sauer P365 9 millimeter handgun was located “in the glove box. It was loaded, including one in the chamber,” according to court records.

The trooper administered a number of field sobriety tests to Kelly as well as a preliminary breath test, which returned a result of .149 BAC, according to court records.

Kelly was held in the Greene County Jail prior to an initial appearance in the Greene County District Court.
