The new Heartland Church of Christ building at 14417 J Ave. is now in use for Sunday services, Bible studies and other activities.
The Heartland Church of Christ bought the 2.5-acre J Avenue property in 2017, and construction began in June 2019.
Congregants Dorothy Stoltz, Lorene Peterson, Karla Allen, Kathy Miner, Sharon Adamson and Susanna Romero gathered for a Thursday morning Bible study in the new church. They said the church hopes to resume its community meals once the COVID-a9 pandemic is safely passed.
The Heartland Church of Christ was located for 37 years at 1402 Warford St. in a 115-year-old building that served as the home of several other congregations as well as a labor union over the years. Records from the original Congregational Church date from 1884.
