The Perry softball team responded to a 6-2 road loss Monday at Gilbert with a 5-2 victory over Greene County at the PAC. The win lifts the Jayettes to 2-8 overall this season.

Perry jumped on Greene County with two runs in the first inning, only to have the Rams tie the contest with two runs of their own in the top of the third. Two Jayette tallies in the bottom half of the frame re-established a two-run lead, at 4-2, with a final Perry run in the fifth capping the scoring.

Macy Killmer had a hot bat for Perry, recording two singles and three RBIs while drawing a walk and scoring once.

Kennedy Tunink had a double, a single and two runs scored, with Maci Tunink adding two base hits and a RBI while Taylor Atwell also drove in a run. Peyton Tunink had a walk and Jayna Kenney was hit by a pitch, with Lydia Olejniczak also scoring for the Jayettes.

Kenney collected the win over the rubber after allowing two runs on just two hits in seven frames. She walked one batter and hit three with pitches, but finished with a season-high seven strikeouts.

Four Gilbert runs in the bottom of the fourth Monday did enough damage for the hosts to claim a 6-2 win in Raccoon River Conference play.

Kenney tossed 3-2/3 innings, yielding six runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks. She hit two batters and fanned one, with Maci Tunink allowing a hit in 2-1/3 frames of scoreless relief.

Olejniczak’s single was the only hit for Perry, with Kenney, Peyton Tunink, Addison Huntington, and Kathryn West joining Olejniczak in drawing a base on balls. Olejniczak drove in a run, stole three bases, and scored once, with West also scoring.
