Perry pride was written in the sky Wednesday evening when an enthusiastic crowd lined the route for the 2021 PHS Homecoming parade, which made its circular way down Willis Avenue from the high school and then north on Eighth Street, east on McKinley Street and back to PHS.
The annual Perry event, which was resumed in 2016 after an eight-year hiatus, was led by this year’s PHS Homecoming Court, including queen candidates Jaylene Karolus, Nubia Torres, Macy Killmer, Marielena Ramirez and Kimberly Castillo. Candidates for king were Andy Gomez, Orlando Gonzalez, Manny Soto, Pablo Calderon and Carlos Sandoval.
A dozen or more parade entrants followed the royalty, including the PHS Marching Band, the PHS Bluejay football team and cheerleaders, a large number of up-and-coming junior Jays, the PACES kids and many other groups and organizations.

The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at a coronation ceremony Wednesday in the PHS gym beginning at 8 p.m. The 2020 PHS Homecoming Queen Cindy Truong and Homecoming King Jayson Chavez will relinquish their crowns at the evening ceremony.
Homecoming activities will continue Thursday, leading up to Friday night’s Homecoming game against Clarke High School at Dewey Field.
